The victim of this tragedy was a fifty-eight-year-old woman named Susila de Silva, residing in the Hekitta area. Her twenty-nine-year-old son had attempted to forcibly take the television set from their home with the intention of selling it to obtain money for drugs. Seriously injured by her son's assault, she was admitted to Ragama General Hospital and was receiving treatment in its Intensive Care Unit. However, after a battle between life and death, she breathed her last on the morning of the 16th. Following the post-mortem examination, the body was ordered to be handed over to her relatives.
