Former First Lady Shiranthi Rajapaksa, who was arrested on a charge related to a sum of 10 million rupees belonging to the National Savings Bank and later released on bail, has been transferred from the Colombo National Hospital to the Colombo Nawaloka Private Hospital for further treatment.

According to hospital sources, this transfer was made based on the advice given by doctors, considering her current health condition. Accordingly, she, who was receiving initial treatment at the Colombo National Hospital, has been referred to Nawaloka Hospital for further medical examinations and treatment.

Former President Mahinda Rajapaksa's wife, Shiranthi Rajapaksa, was arrested by the Bribery Commission on the 7th of last month on the charge of misusing a sum of 10 million rupees belonging to the National Savings Bank, which was obtained for the Siriliya Saviya organization. After her arrest, she was produced before the Colombo Magistrate's Court on the same day and subsequently remanded.

While she was in remand custody, due to a sudden illness, steps were taken to admit her to the Colombo National Hospital. Subsequently, on the 16th of last month, the court ordered her release on bail, and since then, she continued to receive treatment at the National Hospital. It was stated in court on the 16th that a medical board that visited the National Hospital confirmed she needed a bypass surgery. She was granted bail because the bypass surgery was a special reason in a case under the Public Property Act, which makes it difficult to obtain bail.
