Saudi officials say that at least 12 people were killed and 309 others were injured in the attack on King Khalid International Airport in Riyadh, the capital of Saudi Arabia, last Saturday (10). It is also reported that the condition of several of the injured is extremely serious.

US Secretary of State Marco Rubio confirmed that an American citizen was among the dead. Strongly condemning the attacks on Saudi Arabia, calling the Houthi organization "terrorists," he stated in a social media message that the attack resulted in the loss of many innocent lives, including an American citizen.

The Saudi-led coalition operating in Yemen blamed Houthi rebels for the attack, which was the latest in a series of attacks on King Khalid Airport over the past week, making it the deadliest attack in a Gulf Arab country since the start of the Iran war. Reports also indicate that there are no military facilities at this airport.

Airport operations were temporarily suspended after the attack, and countries including the United States, Britain, Germany, Australia, and Canada warned their citizens to stay away from the airport.

One day after this tragedy, on Sunday (11), a passenger terminal at Riyadh Airport was again attacked. Saudi authorities stated that this attack, which targeted the Terminal 3 and 4 complex used for domestic flights, also resulted in injuries. Meanwhile, the Indian Embassy in Saudi Arabia announced that an Indian national, who was injured in Saturday's attack, died on Sunday.

The attack was strongly criticized by the United Nations and world leaders, and President Donald Trump stated that he would consider joining Saudi attacks against the Houthis. Egypt also condemned the ongoing attacks on Saudi Arabia, including the airport attack, as a violation of international law and a disregard for the safety of civilians of various nationalities.

Saudi Arabia launched a massive military operation against the Iranian-backed Houthi organization in Yemen last weekend. Since then, Riyadh Airport has been repeatedly targeted. In an attack on October 8, Saudi Airlines pilot Captain Hamoud Ali Al-Kalthami was killed, and a few days prior, a Sudanese national also died at the same airport. The Houthis claim they are carrying out these attacks in retaliation for Saudi Arabia's attacks on Sana'a International Airport and Hodeidah Airport.
