Wimal in court an hour after the arrest warrant was issued

Due to his non-appearance in court today (21) when the case was called regarding the incident of obstructing roads around the United Nations office in Thummulla, Colombo, during the visit of Prince Zeid Ra'ad Al Hussein, the former UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, to Sri Lanka in 2016.

The Colombo Magistrate's Court had issued a warrant for the arrest and production of former minister and National Freedom Front leader Wimal Weerawansa.

Mr. Wimal Weerawansa appeared in court within an hour of this order being issued, and the warrant was recalled.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama had issued this order.
