An accident involving 11 vehicles colliding on the Southern Expressway - 10 in hospital (video)

A severe road accident has occurred on the Southern Expressway in the area between the Gelanigama and Dodangoda interchanges, involving approximately 11 vehicles including two buses, a cab, and 6 cars, which collided with each other. As a result of these vehicles, which were traveling from Matara towards Colombo, being involved in the accident, more than 10 people, including several schoolchildren, were injured and admitted to nearby hospitals for treatment.

It is reported that this accident occurred when a bus carrying schoolchildren collided with a cab, and several other vehicles coming from behind subsequently collided with each other. Due to such a large number of vehicles being involved in the accident, traffic on the lane towards Colombo has been completely disrupted, and severe traffic congestion has occurred between Gelanigama and Dodangoda.

With the road being blocked, vehicles traveling from Galle towards Colombo have been diverted by the police through the Dodangoda exit. The Expressway Police are conducting further investigations into the incident.
