Aeroflot launches direct flights between Moscow and Colombo

Russia's national airline, Aeroflot, has decided to resume direct flights between Moscow and Colombo for the upcoming winter season. Under this program, which will commence on October 03, two flights per week will be operated in the initial phase.

Russian Ambassador to Sri Lanka, Levan Dzhagaryan, states that they expect to further increase the number of these flights in the future.

The resumption of these flights will greatly benefit Russian tourists hoping to visit Sri Lanka, as well as the local tourism sector. The Ambassador further stated that steps are being taken to carry out necessary promotional activities with the aim of attracting a larger number of Russian tourists to Sri Lanka.

These flights were temporarily suspended from May 17, based on a decrease in tourist arrivals. Although there is usually a slight decrease in the number of tourists arriving in the country from Russia during the summer season, Russia plays an important role as one of the main markets for Sri Lankan tourism. However, during the period elapsed this year, the arrival of Russian tourists remained at a relatively slow level.
