On Binara Poya day, 1000 people came to Peradeniya and donated hair.

A unique and great meritorious act of donating hair for the welfare of those suffering from various ailments was successfully carried out at the Peradeniya University Institute premises on the last Binara Full Moon Poya Day. It is noteworthy that this noble deed was organized by Dr. Gihan Brahmanage, the Managing Director of the Peradeniya University Institute, to mark his 100th blood donation in his life.

Over a thousand people participated in this program, launched for the recovery of patients who have lost their hair due to cancer and are suffering mentally and physically. It was notable that young girls, youth, and elderly women enthusiastically came forward to donate their hair. Furthermore, a large number of people from various parts of the island, including representatives from the Northern and Eastern provinces of Sri Lanka, participated, which was another special aspect.

Several other social welfare activities were also carried out on the same day, coinciding with this hair donation program. Under this, a blood donation camp and a special opportunity for the public to register for organ donation, including eyes, were made available, and thousands of people generously contributed to these activities as well.
