More information emerges about the accidental killing of two Dehiwala students

The tragic news of two innocent school children, aged ten and fourteen, losing their lives in their sleep due to a brutal hand grenade attack on a house located on Sirisangabo Mawatha, Dehiwala, in the early hours of the morning, has deeply shocked the entire nation of Sri Lanka. The whole area is heavy with grief over the untimely demise of these two brothers, and doctors had to surgically remove one of their father's legs due to severe injuries sustained in the attack.

The final rites of the two innocent deceased children were performed, and police investigations have confirmed that this tragedy was caused by a long-standing feud between two organized underworld gangs. This innocent family, not involved in any crime or underworld activities, unfortunately fell victim to the attack due to a serious targeting error by the criminals.

Police investigations have confirmed that behind this brutal attack is the gang of underworld leaders 'Kosmallie' and 'Bodhiyawatte Avishka', who operate crimes in the country from abroad. This hand grenade attack was planned with the aim of assassinating a henchman of their rival underworld gang leader, 'Badowita Asanka'. The targeted individual was residing in the house adjacent to the attacked house, and it has been revealed that he is the elder brother of the father of the deceased children. However, due to a mix-up of houses by the bombers who arrived in the dark of night, the bomb was thrown at the innocent family sleeping in the nearby house, and they fled. There is strong anger among both security forces and the general public regarding the loss of two innocent young lives due to the power struggles and drug trafficking-related feuds between underworld gangs.

Acting immediately on the instructions of Inspector General of Police Priyantha Weerasuriya, several special police teams, including the Mount Lavinia Divisional Criminal Investigation Division, commenced extensive investigations under the direct supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police Sajeeva Medawatta, who is in charge of the Western Province. Accordingly, the police have been able to uncover a lot of information about the uncle of 'Kosmallie', a main suspect who carried out the attack, and the three-wheeler driver who assisted him. Although special police teams raided and inspected several suspected hideouts of this three-wheeler driver, a resident of Saranankara Road, Kalubowila, and the other suspect, they had fled those locations before the police arrived. However, information has been received that these two are hiding together, and operations to apprehend them are continuously underway.

During the investigations, significant information has also been revealed regarding the technical and planned methods used for this crime. The criminals had changed the color, chassis number, and license plates of the three-wheeler used in the attack to completely conceal its identity. This three-wheeler, originally green, was given to a garage and changed to red, and its chassis number and registration plates were even forged. The owner of the garage who carried out these illegal modifications and the person who assisted him have been arrested by the Mount Lavinia Divisional Criminal Investigation Division and are being rigorously interrogated. It has been revealed that this three-wheeler was modified and prepared for the crime based on instructions given via WhatsApp by a drug trafficker named 'Amudu', who is currently abroad.

Meanwhile, as a step to suppress the underworld network and drug trafficking connected to this bomb attack, the Police Special Task Force (STF) also launched a special operation. During this operation, the main organizer who operated the local drug network of the underworld leader 'Bodhiyawatte Avishka' was arrested in the Kalubowila area. At the time of the suspect's arrest, 2 kilograms and 10 grams of 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine), 504 grams of heroin, an electronic scale, two rubber stamps, and two mobile phones were found in his possession. This clearly indicates a massive connection between large-scale drug trafficking and an organized crime network behind this murder plot.

With this bomb attack that claimed the lives of two innocent schoolchildren, the need to intensify underworld suppression and strictly enforce the law in the country has once again been highlighted. Senior police officers emphasize that swift action will be taken to bring all murderers involved in this incident, those who aided and abetted them, as well as the leaders operating the underworld in Sri Lanka from abroad, to justice, as this incident has caused great fear and sorrow among the public. Investigations are continuously ongoing, and extensive operations to find the suspects remain active.
