Chamara Sampath's former secretary, who extorted 8.1 million, caught in bribery net

A development officer of the Uva Provincial Council, who previously served as the private secretary to current Member of Parliament Chamara Sampath Dasanayake when he held the position of State Minister of Primary Industries, has been arrested by the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. Bribery officers arrested the suspect yesterday (21) during a special investigation conducted around 4:55 PM.

The main accusation against him is demanding and receiving a bribe of 8.1 million rupees for arranging the export of phosphate exclusively to three selected companies, deviating from the prescribed procedure through Lanka Phosphate Company, and for aiding in obtaining the relevant export licenses.

Arrangements have been made to present the arrested suspect officer before the Badulla Magistrate's Court for further legal action.
