Cabinet Spokesperson Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa today (18) revealed several facts regarding the incident of illegally remitting billions of US dollars out of the country under the Undiyal system, and the arrest of 4 private bank managers in connection with it.




This was during the press conference to announce cabinet decisions.

Commenting on the matter, the Minister stated that it has now been revealed that these four managers illegally remitted money through 89 accounts on 10,151 occasions.




The Minister stated that the investigation began based on a complaint made by the Additional Director General of Customs to the Financial Crimes Investigation Division in January this year, and accordingly, one person was arrested in the Negombo area on June 19 last year.

The Minister also stated that these four bank managers were arrested as a result of further investigations conducted, and that facts regarding the suspects are being reported to the court under both the Money Laundering Act and the Penal Code.



Further commenting on this matter, Minister Dr. Nalinda Jayatissa said,

"Based on a complaint made by the Additional Director General of Customs to the FCID in January 2026, investigations were initiated. When facts were reported to the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court, judicial permission was granted to uncover information regarding 210 accounts. During that investigation, one person was arrested in Negombo on 2026-06-19; he was given a 7-day detention order and is now remanded. Money has been remitted through 89 accounts on 10,151 occasions. The total value of the money sent out of the country is 74 billion rupees. As a result of these investigations, four executive officers, including managers of four private banks, have been arrested and investigations are ongoing. Facts regarding these individuals are being reported to the court under the Money Laundering Act and the Penal Code. This was carried out under telegraphic transfer."
