Veteran lyricist Rambukana Siddhartha Thero passes away

Venerable Rambukana Siddhartha Thero, a prominent monk, lyricist, and author who rendered an unparalleled service to Sri Lankan song literature, passed away while receiving treatment in hospital due to an an illness. At the time of his passing, he was 76 years old.




His contribution to nurturing local music and literature for several decades is exceptional. Many songs composed by him, based on Buddhist culture as well as themes of love, nature, human life, and society, became extremely popular. "La Dalu Bo Path", "Budu Hamuduruwo Apith Dakinnathi", and "Budu Bana Asuwa" are some of his well-known Buddhist song creations. Furthermore, he was honored with the Sarasaviya Award for the song "Pera Sansare", which he penned for the film "Sandakadapahana".

Born on May 22, 1950, he received his primary education from Morawaka Weliwa Buddhist Mixed School. Later, he pursued higher religious and academic education at Hettavala Pirivena in Galle and Sunethradevi Pirivena in Pepiliyana.
