The delay in 15,000 forensic test reports has led to prison overcrowding.

The latest report from the National Audit Office reveals that 15,117 suspects in 22 prisons across the island have been unable to obtain freedom due to prolonged delays in receiving forensic reports. Furthermore, the report states that 1,940 inmates in 28 prisons have had to be further detained because they were unable to pay even the minor fines imposed by the court.

The National Audit Office points out that these factors have primarily contributed to the severe overcrowding in the prison system, and has also drawn attention to the failure to separate inmates arrested for drug use, possession, and sale from other inmates.

The report further indicates that the detention of drug offenders together with underworld figures has led to an increase in underworld activities within prisons, which has also contributed to creating a serious crisis in society.
