The 17-year-old student ran away while the father was taking him home.

Fort Police have launched an investigation into the disappearance of a 17-year-old school student who suddenly fled and went missing in the Maradana area while returning home with his father in a car after school. The missing student was a resident of the Battaramulla area.

On the last Friday (31st) when the incident occurred, the father arrived by car near the school in the Maradana area where the student was studying. He picked up the student and went to an institution near a cinema hall in Colombo to get a photocopy. After obtaining the photocopy, the student returned to the car, and the father asked him to get in. At that moment, the student suddenly ran quickly towards Kompannaweediya from the rear of the vehicle.

At that moment, the student's younger brother, who was also in the car with their father, chased after him, but was unable to catch the missing student. Subsequently, the father turned the car around at the Lake House roundabout and drove towards Kompannaweediya, conducting searches, but was unable to find the student.

Police state that the student had previously run away on two occasions and returned home the next day, but after this incident on the 31st, he has not returned home until yesterday (02). Further investigations into the incident are being conducted under the instructions of Fort Police Station OIC Chief Police Inspector Dileepa C. Perera.
