Arjuna Mahendran has changed his name to 'Harjaan Alexander'

It has been revealed that former Central Bank Governor Arjuna Mahendran, who is wanted by the court in connection with the Central Bank bond scam, has changed his legal name to 'Harjaan Alexander'. Participating in a television media briefing, Minister of Public Security and Parliamentary Affairs Ananda Wijepala stated that authorities are focusing on alternative legal avenues and other strategic methods to bring the suspect back to Sri Lanka.

According to information received by the Criminal Investigation Department, he changed his name after Interpol issued a Red Notice against Mr. Arjuna Mahendran. The Minister further clarified that although he is a Singaporean citizen and there are obstacles to his extradition to another country under Singaporean legal provisions, necessary arrangements are being made to bring him back to the country by continuously pursuing the relevant legal actions.

A case has been filed against Mr. Arjuna Mahendran and others for causing a loss of over ten billion rupees to the government due to this Central Bank bond incident that occurred in 2015. The Minister pointed out that while the ongoing trial continues, a lot of related information is currently being revealed.

Colombo Chief Magistrate Asanga S. Bodaragama has ordered the Bribery Commission to take appropriate legal action against Mr. Arjuna Mahendran in connection with this case, implement summons, and submit a report on it. Accordingly, the relevant bond case is scheduled to be recalled on the upcoming October 30th.
