Nine ministerial bungalows located in Colombo for embassies

Minister of Public Administration, Provincial Councils, and Local Government, Professor Chandana Abeyratne, states that the process of allocating nine ministerial bungalows located in Colombo for the operation of embassies has now reached its final stage. The Minister also mentioned that nine foreign embassies had been requesting these official residences for a considerable period.

In addition to this step, measures are being taken to allocate six more ministerial bungalows for trade and commercial activities, and there is a possibility of providing more official residences in accordance with the requirements for establishing courts. The government has decided as a matter of policy not to provide any bungalows for the personal use of ministers, and the main objective of the government is to generate income from the use of these properties and to utilize them for economically productive projects.

Special courts have already been established in three ministerial official residences, and another bungalow has been provided for the activities of the Commission to Investigate Allegations of Bribery or Corruption. There are thirty ministerial bungalows located across Colombo city, and it has also been revealed that these premises were becoming overgrown due to being unused and closed for nearly two years.
