A separate story about the 12-year-old child who fell from the upper floor of the "Mal Berry Resort" in Dematagoda.

A tragic incident was reported on the afternoon of August 16, where a 12-year-old boy fell to his death from an upper floor of the 14-story apartment complex named "Mal Berry Resort" located on Dematagoda Road, Maradana, Colombo 09. The child who unfortunately died was Abdul Haseen, a resident of the same area.

The child's mother had abandoned the family, and due to the father's severe addiction to alcohol, the child was released from probation by a court order and placed under the guardianship of his grandmother. Accordingly, the deceased child had been growing up under the care of his grandmother.

According to preliminary information related to the incident, this child, along with five other young children, was observing the surroundings from near the swimming pool on the 14th floor of the said building. At that point, upon hearing a sound from below, the other five children went downstairs, while the deceased child attempted to exit from another open and unsafe location, leading to this sudden accident.

After the accident, a person who saw the child's body fallen into an open area on the third floor of the apartment complex, approximately 120 feet below, informed the Maradana Police Station. Accordingly, under the instructions of Maradana Police Station OIC, Chief Police Inspector W.C.S. Pathma Kumara, a police team including the OIC of the Criminal Investigation Division, Police Inspector S. Mayuran, is conducting further investigations by recording statements from the other children who witnessed the incident and several others.
