A special weekend relief package priced at Rs. 799 has been introduced for passengers using the low-floor Metro bus service, which was imported to the country with the aim of modernizing the island's public transport service. The registration of these 104 imported buses, equipped with modern facilities, will commence next week, and all buses are scheduled to be put into operation by the end of this month, as soon as the registrations are completed.
Mr. Sajeeva Kanakarathne, Chairman of the Sri Lanka Transport Board, stated that these new buses would be introduced targeting Colombo city and its suburban areas.
Confirming details about the Rs. 799 relief package for weekend travelers, Mr. Thilak Thilakarathne, Chairman of Metro Company, stated that it allows passengers to travel an unlimited number of times on any route on either Saturday or Sunday.
Another special feature is that no ticket fare will be charged from children under 12 years of age traveling with adults who activate this special package. This step has been taken with the aim of attracting the local public to this new Metro bus service, and facilities have been provided to obtain the relevant relief package through the 'LMT GO' mobile application (App).
