
A person has died due to an argument escalating between residents of two rented shops located in a closed temple courtyard in the Dambulla Vihara Handiya area. Dambulla Police state that the wife of the deceased also sustained serious injuries in this severe clash that occurred on the night of the 14th and has been admitted to Dambulla Base Hospital.
The person tragically murdered in this manner is a 53-year-old man who was temporarily residing on rent in the Dambulla Vihara Handiya area. In connection with this brutal murder, another person who was staying in the adjacent shop room has been taken into police custody on suspicion.
Preliminary investigations conducted by the police have revealed that on the night of the incident, continuous arguments and altercations occurred for several hours between the deceased husband and the injured wife. Investigations have also revealed that at that time, the person from the adjacent room came and severely assaulted the couple.
Upon receiving information regarding the incident, a team of officers, including Dambulla Headquarters Police Inspector Mr. Sugath Bandara Wijesundara, visited the relevant location and conducted on-site investigations. The police point out that after this shop complex located in the Vihara Handiya area was closed, its owners rented them out to external individuals, and currently, the entire premises has become a major hub for drug addicts.
