Days after being banned from entering Turkish waters, a passenger ship carrying the LGBTQ+ community has also been denied entry into Egypt. This ship, on a 10-day journey from Athens to Venice, was initially prevented from entering by Turkey, citing that the ship had been booked by a group whose behavior was incompatible with their social structure and values.

Subsequently, Egyptian authorities also banned the ship from entering Alexandria port without stating any official reason.

The 'Scarlet Lady' ship, belonging to Virgin Voyages, carries approximately 2,000 passengers, including 77-year-old veteran Broadway actress Patti LuPone. A letter was sent to passengers' cabins before they woke up, informing them that the ship was not allowed to enter Egyptian waters and would instead have to proceed to alternative ports. Rich Campbell, head of Atlantis Events, which organized the trip, told passengers that he was surprised by this sudden decision, as a similar journey was successfully completed without any obstacles last year.

Commenting on Turkey's decision, Campbell told CNN that the only reason for the ban was that it was a gay group. He also mentioned that his organization had organized such trips to Turkey 13 times over the past 25 years without any issues. Attempts to lift the ban through the US Embassy in Turkey have also been unsuccessful. However, the ship has now changed its course and is scheduled to arrive in Chania, Crete, Greece, and Montenegro on Sunday.

Passengers on board the ship have expressed both their concern and their unwavering spirit regarding this incident. Actress Patti LuPone posted on her Instagram account, stating that despite being furious about the decision, she is ready to perform for the wonderful people on the ship. Another passenger, Randy Slovacek, noted on his blog that if they don't want their tourism business, he is ready to spend his time and money elsewhere and be happy.
