The Janabalaya Collective states that former intelligence chief Suresh Salley was forced to abandon his 'hunger strike drama,' which was based on the Prevention of Terrorism Act, after it was blatantly proven false during medical examinations. Activists of the collective point out that the 'criminal state' operating beneath the constitutional state of this country and the political power structure are intertwined, and if the fight to bring these corrupt individuals to justice is halted, the country will be caught in the worst network of revenge in history.
Mr. Vidarshana Kannangara, an activist of the collective, pointed this out while participating in a special media briefing held in Colombo yesterday (01).
Further commenting, he said, “This afternoon, former intelligence chief Suresh Salley abandoned the hunger strike he was conducting. A gang including Udaya Gammanpila and Wimal Weerawansa led a hunger strike in front of the Fort station against Salley's arrest. However, everyone had to run away, abandoning the hunger strike in a very short time.
Suresh Salley began a hunger strike on June 06, claiming that the Criminal Investigation Department (CID) would arrest him under the Prevention of Terrorism Act (PTA) and torture him. He also demanded the repeal of the Prevention of Terrorism Act. Furthermore, he requested that high-ranking CID officials, including Shani Abeysekera, be removed and that he be remanded. However, neither the government nor the CID officials paid any attention to this hunger strike. Therefore, Suresh Salley, who is accused as a mastermind behind these major crimes, realized that his 'game' was not working. When a medical board at the National Hospital examined him, it was blatantly proven that the hunger strike he had been conducting for the past few weeks was a lie.”
