To mitigate the risk of dengue fever spreading among schoolchildren, the Ministry of Education, Higher Education, and Vocational Education has announced a special health protection program. Accordingly, to protect students from mosquito bites, it has been decided to allow children to come to school dressed in suitable attire that fully covers their arms and legs, in addition to the regular school uniform.
This has been announced through a special notification issued by the Ministry, and all principals island-wide have been instructed to implement two key measures for the health safety of students. Mr. Nalaka Kaluwewa, Secretary to the Ministry of Education, stated that these steps were taken with the aim of preventing the spread of dengue among students.
Arrangements have already been made to inform all school heads about this matter, and a series of official instructions regarding it is expected to be issued in the future. Furthermore, the relevant notification requests principals to educate students on using mosquito repellent products of proper standards to protect themselves from mosquitoes.
