
The Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today (28) ordered the release on bail of three suspects who were remanded on charges of accepting a bribe of 1.2 billion rupees from Nadun Chinthaka, also known as 'Harak Kata', an organized criminal. Those granted bail were Attorney Rakitha Rajapaksa, son of former Minister Wijeyadasa Rajapakshe, Charith Abeysinghe, former Horana electorate organizer of the Samagi Jana Balawegaya, and Warusha Hennadige Aruna Sri Chathuranga, a former director of Airport and Aviation Services Sri Lanka (Pvt) Ltd and the Civil Aviation Authority.
This order was issued today morning when the relevant suspects were produced before the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court. The Magistrate ordered two personal bails of 5 million rupees each and a cash bail of 100,000 rupees for each suspect, and also imposed a travel ban on them.
In addition, the Colombo Chief Magistrate's Court today (28) also ordered the release on bail of Sarath Weerawansa, brother of former Minister Wimal Weerawansa.
