The Russian government has begun taking strict legal action against creators on adult content websites like OnlyFans, with Diana Shurygina, a well-known social media activist in the country, becoming one of its main targets. By order of a Moscow court, she has currently been placed under house arrest, and charges of distributing pornographic material as an organized group have been filed against her.

If this crime is proven, she could face a prison sentence of two to six years and a fine of 600,000 rubles. Kremlin-friendly media reports that these investigations are related to the videos and photos she promoted through the relevant website.

This crackdown is not limited to Shurygina, and Telegram channels linked to Russian security forces say that extensive investigations are being prepared, targeting more people who create content on OnlyFans and other adult websites. As a document containing data of 340 million users from a major website is circulating online, the government has been able to easily identify its creators and subscribers. In addition to Shurygina, actress Anastasia Ovsyannikova, who recorded videos with sexual scenes with her, and Ludwig Krichker, who produces adult content, have also been arrested.

Security forces say that at the time of her arrest, she was preparing to flee to Bali, and had planned to find more women there and create new videos. However, it has also been revealed that a group of Ukrainian adult film producers lured her into recording these videos by promising her a luxurious house in Bali. Additionally, the promotion of homosexual relationships is prohibited in Russia, and the "LGTBIQ+" movement has been included in the list of extremist and terrorist activities. For this reason, there is a possibility of further charges being filed against the three arrested individuals under "extremist propaganda."

Russian President Vladimir Putin has stated that one of the main themes of the upcoming parliamentary elections in September will be the protection of traditional moral values. The Kremlin uses these traditional morals as a political strategy to show that Russia is different from Western culture. However, individuals like Yulia Volkova, the former singer of the 't.A.T.u' music group and a prominent member of Putin's political party, have previously gained fame by depicting homosexual relationships. She has stated that those laws do not apply to her and that she is an artist.

Diana Shurygina first became a subject of great controversy in Russia in 2017 when she revealed on a television program that she had been raped at a party at the age of 16. With that incident, Russian society was divided for and against her, and subsequently, her family even had to change their residence. After that, she tried to gain popularity through Instagram, and after a short marriage, a relationship with a wealthy blogger, living abroad, and receiving treatment at drug rehabilitation clinics, she started an OnlyFans account in 2021. The person who raped her was released in 2018 after serving a little over a year of an eight-year prison sentence.
