Major General Nilantha Premaratne has been appointed as the new Commander of the Sri Lanka Army. This appointment, made according to the recommendations and guidance of President Anura Kumara Dissanayake, also saw him promoted to the rank of Lieutenant General.
This change in leadership comes after the tenure of Lieutenant General Lasantha Rodrigo, who served as the 25th Commander of the Sri Lanka Army, concluded. Prior to this appointment, Mr. Nilantha Premaratne served as the Chief of Staff of the Army and is a senior officer with extensive experience, having held various high-ranking positions and fulfilled responsibilities throughout his military career.
A member of the Sri Lanka Artillery, he joined the Army under Course No. 34. Furthermore, during his military service, he also served as the Army Media Spokesperson.
