Central Province Governor Professor Sarath Abeykoon has submitted his letter of resignation from his post to President Anura Kumara Dissanayake. He stated that no response has been received regarding this letter, which was sent to the President a few days ago.
Furthermore, the Governor confirmed during our inquiry that no statement has yet been made by the President regarding whether steps have been taken to accept or reject this resignation. When asked why he decided to resign from his post, Professor Sarath Abeykoon further stated that it was a decision based entirely on personal reasons and disappointment. Prior to assuming his current position, he also served as the Vice-Chancellor of the University of Peradeniya.
Meanwhile, the post of Governor's Secretary for the Central Province is also currently vacant. The reason for this is the recent retirement of Ms. Manjula Madahapola, who held that position. Accordingly, Mr. Ishan Wijethilaka, who serves as the Secretary of the Central Province Public Service Commission, has been appointed to act as the Governor's Secretary for the resulting vacancy.
