Latest reports from the National Dengue Control Unit confirm that the spread of dengue in Sri Lanka is reaching an extremely dangerous level. The total number of dengue patients reported in the country from the beginning of this year until July 14 has increased to 71,235.

Highlighting the severity of the epidemic, 1,284 new patients were identified yesterday (14) alone, and the total number of deaths due to the virus has now risen to 49.




According to current data analysis, the Western Province reports the highest number of patients, surpassing other areas of the island, with a total of 37,490 cases. Within the Western Province, Gampaha District has been most affected, with 14,736 infected individuals identified. Concurrently, 14,229 dengue patients have been reported from Colombo District.

According to timely data, the highest number of dengue patients this year was reported in June, with 21,538 patients identified in that month alone. Furthermore, the National Dengue Control Unit further indicates that another 15,856 new dengue patients have been reported in the country during the short 14-day period of the current month of July.
