A video showing a car burning in a school compound in the Kurunegala area and a student walking nearby is currently circulating on social media. The Police Media Division, issuing a statement, states that the video, which contains these scenes, also includes an audio clip implying that the student in question set fire to the car.
According to the police, this fire occurred within a school compound belonging to the Kurunegala Police Division. According to reports provided by the Kurunegala Police Station, a car worth approximately 14 million rupees was destroyed in the fire that occurred on the 3rd of last month, and a complaint has been lodged with the police stating that a student is responsible for this.
The Kurunegala Police, who initiated investigations into this matter, have identified the student who was walking near the car when it caught fire as someone studying at the same college. However, the police emphasize that no eyewitness or forensic evidence has yet been uncovered to confirm that this student set fire to the car, as is being spread on social media.
The Kurunegala Police have already reported the facts related to this incident to the court, and investigations are being continued further. Furthermore, the police statement adds that arrangements have been made to obtain expert evidence from the Government Analyst's Department to ascertain the exact cause of the car fire.
