Rescue teams have successfully rescued a person who had been trapped for eight days amidst the rubble of a building that collapsed in the recent twin earthquakes in Venezuela. This person, named Hernan Gill, was trapped under a massive layer of debris weighing 140 tons.
After he was first identified among the rubble, rescue workers had to work continuously and tirelessly for more than 100 hours to safely extract him.It has been confirmed that nearly 2,300 people have died so far due to these horrific earthquakes that affected Venezuela on June 24, and tens of thousands more are still missing. A Chilean firefighter who participated in this extraordinary rescue operation told the media that it was the most complex and technically difficult operation he had ever faced.
Hundreds of rescue teams representing Venezuela, Chile, Costa Rica, El Salvador, Mexico, Portugal, and the United States joined this life-saving operation, battling against time. The tunnels created by rescue workers to reach his location collapsed several times, creating a dangerous situation that posed a severe threat to Hernan Gill's life as well as the safety of the rescue workers.
