A fight at Borella Magazine Prison too

A clash occurred among a group of inmates today (10) afternoon at the Magazine Prison in Borella, Colombo. According to prison sources, this unrest initially broke out between two inmates, and later two more inmates joined the conflict.

However, the reason for such a fight among this group has not yet been revealed.

Prison officials have taken steps to immediately admit the inmates injured in this clash to the Welikada Prison Hospital. Three of the inmates who received treatment there have been brought back to the Magazine Prison after recovering, while prison sources state that the other injured inmate is still receiving inpatient treatment at the same hospital.

Along with this incident, prison sources have further revealed details about the severe overcrowding within the prison. Although the Magazine Prison can accommodate a maximum of only 600 inmates according to existing facilities, it is reported that as of today, approximately 3,100 inmates are being held there, significantly exceeding its normal capacity.
