3 bombs in the cupboard at the AASP's house

A team of officers from the Kandy Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau has discovered three foreign-made live hand grenades and a sword hidden inside the rented house of an Assistant Superintendent of Police located in the Nattaranpotha area.

Police sources state that the three live hand grenades were found hidden in a cupboard inside the house, while the sword was discovered under the bed in the room where the Assistant Superintendent of Police sleeps when he comes home on leave.

Due to a family dispute between this Assistant Superintendent of Police, who is stationed in Kankasanthurai in the Northern Province, and his wife, the wife had lodged a complaint with the Deputy Inspector General of Police for Matale and Kandy Districts on the 17th, stating that her husband was issuing death threats against her. After observing these weapons in the house, the wife revealed the relevant information to the police.

The Pallekele Police stated that although the Assistant Superintendent of Police has given a statement to the Pallekele Police regarding this incident, he has not yet been arrested. Further investigations are being conducted by officers of the Kandy Divisional Criminal Investigation Unit under the instructions of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Central Province, Mr. Lalith Pathinayake, and the Assistant Superintendent of Police is scheduled to be extensively questioned in the future.
