16 hospitalized after a fight inside Negombo prison

An unrest and a clash occurred between two groups of inmates within the Negombo Prison premises this afternoon. Police and hospital sources confirm that over 16 inmates have been injured due to this prison clash and have currently been admitted to Negombo Hospital for treatment.

The Director of Negombo Hospital stated that 16 injured inmates were referred to him for medical treatment following the crisis situation that arose within the prison.

Upon learning of the incident, authorities took steps to obtain the assistance of the Police Special Task Force (STF) to control the situation and ensure security within the prison. Accordingly, STF personnel were called in and efforts were made to quell the unrest that occurred inside the prison.
