Latest research has revealed a clear change in the periods when dengue mosquitoes are active and bite, states Dr. Kapila Kannangara, Director of the National Dengue Control Unit.

While in previous periods dengue mosquitoes were most active during sunrise and sunset, according to the latest findings, these vector mosquitoes are extremely active between 6:00 AM and 11:00 AM.

As this morning period is when the general public, including schoolchildren, are frequently outdoors and active, the tendency for mosquito bites and the risk of contracting the disease have significantly increased. Dr. Kannangara emphasizes that schoolchildren are currently at severe risk, especially due to the continued discovery of a large number of mosquito larvae within school premises.
