Former Member of Parliament Udaya Gammanpila had made comments to the media on 2026.06.06 regarding the suspect named Suresh Salle, former head of intelligence, who was arrested on suspicion in connection with the Easter attacks and is currently detained under detention orders by the Criminal Investigation Department. The Sri Lanka Police, through its Police Media Division, has emphasized by issuing a statement that the aforementioned statement made through social and electronic media is untrue.
The relevant statement clarifies that the Sri Lanka Police has not subjected the suspect to any inhumane treatment or assault. He has been dealt with legally, just like any ordinary suspect, and no neglect or special consideration has been shown to him.
The police point out that matters related to this incident are already being debated in the honorable court. Therefore, the Sri Lanka Police further informs the relevant parties that it is important to present facts with greater restraint when issuing such statements to the media outside of court.
