Fort Magistrate Pasan Amarasekara has ordered the Kollupitiya Police to conduct a comprehensive investigation and submit a detailed report regarding the incident where a male student and a female student died after falling from the 67th floor of the Altair luxury apartment complex located in the Kollupitiya area.
The Magistrate issued this order after considering a motion filed by President's Counsel Maithri Gunaratne on behalf of the mother of the deceased student, to inquire about the progress of the investigation related to this unfortunate incident that occurred in 2024. The President's Counsel stated before the court that the magisterial inquiry related to these deaths has not yet been conducted.
Responding to these submissions, the Kollupitiya Police informed the court that the inquest into the incident had been conducted by the Inquirer into Sudden Deaths. The police also stated before the court that steps could be taken to hold the magisterial inquiry within the next week, after summoning the necessary evidence.
It was also revealed that a previous magistrate had ordered the Kollupitiya Police Station to be provided with the phone data analysis reports related to the SIM cards of the two mobile phones used by the deceased male and female students.
