Karisma Kapoor, who won the hearts of audiences in 90s Bollywood cinema through her unique dancing talent and style, is ready to meet audiences again in a completely different avatar, one never seen before in her acting career. As a special link in the Kapoor lineage, descended from giants like Raj Kapoor and Rishi Kapoor, she is set to showcase her acting prowess this time through the digital screen, also known as the OTT platform.
This will be through the latest psychological thriller web series titled 'Brown'.In this web series, she portrays the character of Rita Brown, an alcoholic, mentally broken police officer. Karisma has had to undergo a severe physical and mental transformation for this role, where she is called back to duty for an operation to catch a serial killer. To portray the character's nature more realistically, she went days without washing her hair and even refrained from eating to show the character's fasting nature and hunger. She states that bringing this character to life, abandoning her usual glamorous appearance for purple-tinted lips and a disheveled look, was a huge challenge in her acting career.
Recalling the past where she acted spontaneously without any prior preparation during film shoots in the 90s, Karisma has also commented on the intense preparation required for current OTT productions. She mentions that under the direction of Abhinay Deo, all actors and technical crew for the 'Brown' web series participated in extensive workshops and script readings, joining the shoots with thorough preparation. Emphasizing the need for an actor to evolve with time, she believes that the OTT platform provides an opportunity to explore complex female characters in greater depth than a two-hour film.
Karisma expresses her humble joy that her old popular songs and dances are still immensely popular among the younger generation today. She states that it brings her great pleasure when the new generation imitates her dance styles through social media like Instagram Reels, and that sometimes even young audiences expect such dances from her again. The 'Brown' web series, featuring this dark and complex performance, which deviates from her usual cinematic framework, is available for audiences to watch on ZEE5.
