The police have revealed that the male body found floating in the Gin River belongs to "Almeida," the chief gunman of the organized criminal known as "Loku Pati." This body, with its hands and feet tied to a concrete pole and thrown into the river, was discovered by the Poddala Police on the night of the 23rd. At the time, due to severe head injuries, the body could not be immediately identified.

Subsequent extensive investigations by the police revealed that it was the body of Viraj Rashmika de Zoysa, also known as Almeida, a resident of the Ahungalla area.

Based on unique tattoo marks on the deceased's body, a woman who had a close relationship with him initially identified the body. Subsequently, his parents also identified the remains and stated to the police that they had not maintained any contact with their son for about four years. The post-mortem examination of the body revealed that the death was caused by a blow to the neck area with a sharp weapon.

According to police investigations, the murdered Almeida was also a powerful drug trafficker, and he had once been arrested with over 13 kilograms of drugs. Furthermore, he acted as the chief gunman in three murders that occurred in Trincomalee, Ahungalla, and Galle, under the direction of the criminal Loku Pati. Having evaded the police and remained in hiding for a long time, he was also reportedly a serious threat to the rival criminal gang known as "Karandeniye Sudda."
