In a moment when anger proved more powerful than blood ties, a marital dispute ended in tragedy with a father's club strike, raised for a daughter seeking refuge.

The tragic incident, which occurred on the night of the 7th at a house in the Malpettawa First Lane area of Ambalantota, claimed the life of twenty-six-year-old Pasindu Udayanga Abeyratne, a resident of Jansagama, Mamadala area. Also known by the nickname 'Weli Pasindu', he was the father of a young child.

The root cause of this tragedy was a long-standing family dispute between the deceased Pasindu and his wife. Unable to tolerate her husband's constant conflicts, she had sought freedom and safety at her father's house. However, Pasindu, burning with rage, drove his own tipper truck, crashed it into his father-in-law's house gate, causing severe damage, and then stormed into the house.

Upon entering the house, he again argued with his wife. Deeply frightened by her husband's violent behavior, she ran into a room in the house and tried to hide to escape him. However, Pasindu pursued her and continued to assault her, behaving inhumanely. Unable to watch his daughter being attacked any longer, the father, with the intention of saving her, struck his son-in-law's head forcefully with a pole he grabbed.

Pasindu, who sustained serious injuries from the attack, breathed his last after being admitted to the Ambalantota Government Hospital. While the life of a young man, who was involved in the local sand mining business and owned several pieces of machinery, ended in this manner, the father who went to save his daughter was arrested by the police on a charge of murder. The magisterial inquiry into the incident was held on the morning of the 8th, presided over by Hambantota Acting Magistrate Mrs. Sudharma Ranjani Wijesinghe. Under the guidance of Tangalle Senior Superintendent of Police Mr. Nipuna Dehigama and the direction of Assistant Superintendent of Police Mr. M.P. Arunalaal, a team including Ambalantota Police Station OIC Chief Inspector Amila Rajapaksha has commenced a comprehensive investigation into the matter.

A moment of anger and impatience forever deprived a young child of his father, while a father who sought to protect his child found himself entangled in the law, forced to count iron bars. This conveys an irreversible and tragic lesson to the entire society.
