Several police teams, including the Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police, have launched extensive investigations to find the main suspect who, posing as a computer software engineer, mysteriously transported the body of a physiotherapist, who died in a room of a luxury apartment complex in Nuwara Eliya, by placing it on the front seat of a car and fastening the seatbelt, to Kandy and Teldeniya areas. The victim of this murder has been identified as Ratnayake Pathiranage Shyama Darshani, a young woman who worked as a physiotherapist at Ampara Hospital.

Her body was later found by the police inside a car parked near Teldeniya Hospital, and information has now been revealed that the suspect is a fraudster who deceived her through various tactics, disguised himself, and is hiding across the country.

According to police investigations, it has been revealed that on the 16th, around 6:30 PM, the suspect placed the deceased young woman's body on the front seat of a car, fastened the seatbelt, and drove it in a manner that would not arouse suspicion. He then brought the car with the body and parked it in front of the house where he last resided, on Ayurveda Road, Kundasale, Kandy. Subsequently, around 8:10 PM on the same day, he re-entered the same car and left the location with the body, as revealed by the Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police through a meticulous examination of CCTV security camera footage installed at an adjacent house.

Further examination of the CCTV security camera footage has enabled investigating officers to uncover a wealth of additional crucial information. It was revealed that another van followed the car driven by the suspect, and a woman and three small children were traveling in it. The police have now confirmed that this woman, who arrived in the van with the three children, is the mistress of the suspect who fraudulently posed as an engineer. The police strongly suspect that this mistress was aware of all details regarding the murder or death of the physiotherapist beforehand.

The Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police have launched a special operation to apprehend this woman, who has currently fled the area and is in hiding. As she might attempt to flee the island with her children, the police have taken steps to officially notify Bandaranaike International Airport in Katunayake and Mattala Rajapaksa International Airport with immediate effect to prevent her departure from the country. Meanwhile, police investigations revealed that this fraudulent suspect, who introduced himself as a software engineer, also operated a garment or textile shop in the Katugastota area.

On the 16th, the day the crime occurred, the suspect called two young women working at the textile shop and ordered them to close the shop immediately. Following his request or instruction, the two employees closed the shop on the same day, and all this information was revealed during extensive questioning of these employees by the police. Complaints and information have also been received by the police that the suspect deceived approximately three young women in various areas by promising to marry them, and defrauded them of millions of rupees.

This individual had also fraudulently established a romantic relationship with the deceased physiotherapist, Shyama Darshani. Giving false promises that he would marry her and take her to Canada, he repeatedly obtained a large sum of over 15 million rupees from her. Investigations confirmed that due to the suspect's fraudulent behavior, completely avoiding her afterwards, the young woman suffered a severe mental breakdown and was in deep distress. She died while staying in an apartment in Nuwara Eliya, and the suspect placed her body in a car, brought it near Teldeniya Hospital, and then fled.

A team of Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police officers visited the house in Narammala, Kurunegala, where the suspect's parents and elder brothers reside, to investigate his family background and record their statements. The suspect's mother told the police that although her son occasionally sent money in amounts of fifty thousand, one hundred and fifty thousand, and two hundred thousand rupees for her expenses, she had not seen him for about eight years. The mother further stated that she last met him eight years ago when he was staying at a house in Athurugiriya, and has not seen him since.

Meanwhile, the suspect's elder brother, speaking to the police, made a highly emotional statement expressing strong disgust towards his younger brother. He stated that even though he is his younger brother, he has been a corrupt individual since childhood, deceiving various people and fraudulently obtaining money and other things. "I don't even want to see the face of that person called my younger brother; he does such despicable things, he's a detestable person. He has deceived a significant number of girls across the country and taken their money. Even though he's my younger brother, he's a fraudster who disguised himself and deceived girls," the brother stated. The family also says that he was expelled from the house eight years ago because creditors came looking for him and behaved violently due to him taking money from various people and failing to repay them.

During police interrogations, a lot of information about the suspect's education and personal life has also been revealed. He has only studied up to G.C.E. Advanced Level and later worked as an employee for a period at a telecommunication company providing mobile phone services. He was previously legally married and has one child from that marriage. However, due to his various disciplinary and criminal misconducts, his legal wife abandoned him and later left for an overseas job. The suspect's family members have told the police that they do not know the current whereabouts of that child.

Information has been received that the suspect is currently hiding in several areas, adopting various false disguises, and investigating officers kindly request the public to immediately inform the police if they have any information about him or his mistress. Furthermore, a senior police officer emphasized that any individual or group providing shelter or hiding the fake software engineer and his mistress, who are sought for arrest, will also be immediately arrested and severely dealt with by the law, regardless of their status.

It has not yet been definitively revealed whether the physiotherapist's death was due to suicide by hanging or if the suspect strangled her to death, although the police suspect that death occurred due to strangulation. The police express confidence that the exact cause of death will be accurately confirmed by the upcoming post-mortem examination report of the deceased young woman. Although investigations have been conducted by raiding nearly 10 locations to apprehend the suspect, no definite information about him has been received yet, and investigations have been further expedited.

These investigations are being conducted under the full supervision of Senior Deputy Inspector General of Police for the Central Province, Mr. Lalith Pathinayake, and Deputy Inspector General of Police for Nuwara Eliya District, Mr. Jagath Sandarasiri. The investigations are proceeding under the direct instructions and guidance of Senior Superintendent of Police for Nuwara Eliya Division, Mr. Samarakoon Banda, and Assistant Superintendent of Police (I) for Nuwara Eliya, Mr. Chandana Basnayake. Under the leadership of Chief Inspector Chaminda Sanjeewa, Officer-in-Charge of Nuwara Eliya Headquarters Police Station, and Chief Inspector Premalal, Officer-in-Charge of the Criminal Investigation Division, a team of special police officers is tirelessly operating an extensive investigation network day and night to swiftly apprehend the suspect and his mistress.
