A serious accident occurred when a passenger transport bus belonging to the Sri Lanka Transport Board (SLTB), which was traveling from Colombo to Badulla, overturned into a steep precipice about 20 feet deep near Diyatalawa railway station. It is reported that 42 people traveling in the bus were injured in this unfortunate incident.
Commenting on the incident, the police stated that steps were taken to promptly admit the injured to Diyatalawa Hospital with the assistance of local residents and relief service teams. Preliminary investigations also revealed that passengers sustained various injuries when the bus veered off the road and overturned.
Explaining the current condition of those hospitalized, Dr. W.K.L.M. Weerasekera, the Acting Medical Superintendent of Diyatalawa Base Hospital, stated that the condition of two out of the 42 patients currently receiving treatment is extremely critical. All necessary emergency medical facilities have already been provided by the hospital staff for the rest of the patients.
