It is reported that a group from the National Freedom Front, who attempted to disrupt the rehearsal of the commemorative program organized for tomorrow (19) at the Battaramulla National War Heroes' Monument to commemorate fallen war heroes, clashed with the police today and fled.

A group of political activists led by the party leader and former Member of Parliament, Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, brought a bouquet of flowers to this location and attempted to enter, bringing a camera crew with them. It was clear that Wimal Weerawansa wanted to deliver a speech in front of the camera, blaming the government. He delivered a speech in front of the officers, who knew nothing about the matter, claiming that the government does not care for war heroes, all to provide headlines for the accompanying cameramen.

Subsequently, they attempted to push their way into the main grounds where the monument is located, but the police officers in charge of security prevented them as no one is allowed to enter during the rehearsal.

The police continuously informed the group that outsiders could not be allowed to enter the premises as rehearsals and preparations for the National War Heroes' Commemoration Day, scheduled for tomorrow (19), were underway. However, former minister Wimal Weerawansa, unwilling to obey the law, angrily shouted 'Are you going to let the Tigers in then?' and pushed police officers, attempting to run inside. It is also reported that he stumbled and fell to the ground while running at that moment.

The police took action to arrest two individuals from this group.

Meanwhile, the Sri Lanka Police, issuing a statement regarding the incident, stated that steps were taken to remove the group that attempted to forcibly enter the War Heroes' Monument grounds, obstructing the duties of officers and the rehearsal activities of the national commemorative ceremony. The police further emphasized in their statement that legal and judicial action would be taken against the group, including former Member of Parliament Mr. Wimal Weerawansa, who attempted to enter unauthorizedly and obstructed official duties.
