A significant amount of important information has been revealed during extensive interrogations of Ujitha Kumara, also known as 'Wanathe Kudu Duminda,' a member of an organized crime gang, who is currently in police custody after being deported to Sri Lanka from Dubai. The Colombo Crimes Division states that based on the secrets revealed by the suspect, they were able to recover two foreign-made firearms, live ammunition, and a motorcycle linked to a double murder, which were buried in an abandoned house.
This raid was carried out based on confessions obtained from this prominent criminal, for whom the Sri Lanka Police had even issued international red notices.On the 22nd, steps were taken to refer 21 powerful underworld members, including Wanathe Duminda, to four police stations and 14 investigation units for further investigations. During interrogations conducted while he was detained at the Colombo Crimes Division, this suspect revealed a significant amount of information related to his crime spree. According to information provided by the suspect, a resident of Sarana Pala Himi Mawatha, Borella, police teams were able to unearth a cache of weapons buried in the kitchen floor of an abandoned house in the same area.
Investigating officers state that among the items taken into police custody are a 9mm revolver-type firearm manufactured in a foreign country, bearing serial number 2009, another revolver-type firearm bearing serial number 2015, and four live rounds of ammunition. Additionally, the motorcycle recovered by the police has been identified as the vehicle used by the gunmen in the incident on August 8 last year, where two individuals were shot dead while decorating a playground in the Borella area. Investigations have confirmed that the entire double murder plot was orchestrated by Wanathe Kudu Duminda, and the motorcycle was found hidden in the custody of one of his close associates after the crime.
