Suryakumar Yadav becomes a father during IPL

Suryakumar Yadav, the captain of the Indian T20 national cricket team and a powerful batsman representing the Mumbai Indians in the 2026 Indian Premier League (IPL) tournament, and his wife Devisha Shetty, recently officially announced the birth of their first daughter. They revealed to their fans via social media that their baby, reportedly born on May 7th, has been named 'Riddhima'.

Posting a picture taken at the hospital on his Instagram account, Suryakumar introduced his daughter as "our biggest blessing." The photo, featuring background decorations that read "Welcome, it’s a girl" to celebrate the birth of a baby girl, and their initial announcement received a huge response across the internet. Sports enthusiasts and fellow players alike extended their congratulations to the couple, while many fans expressed their joy by referring to the newborn daughter as a 'Lakshmi' who brings good fortune to the home.

Following this happy news, a video of Suryakumar celebrating his joy by distributing sweets to photographers at Mumbai airport also circulated on social media. Suryakumar and Devisha, who got married in July 2016, largely kept their private life secret and did not reveal much information about the pregnancy. However, only glimpses of a 'baby shower' party held with close relatives last March had previously surfaced online. Devisha has provided immense support to Suryakumar since the beginning of his cricketing career, and she constantly accompanied him on international tours and IPL tournaments.

Due to dedicating time to family responsibilities following the birth of his daughter, Suryakumar was initially unable to join the Mumbai Indians team for their Raipur tour. However, he rejoined the team before the crucial match against Royal Challengers Bangalore (RCB) on May 10th. Previously, in the match against Lucknow Super Giants, Suryakumar had also taken on the responsibility of leading the Mumbai team due to regular captain Hardik Pandya's back injury, where they successfully chased a massive target of 229 runs with excellent innings from Rohit Sharma and Ryan Rickelton. With Hardik still recovering and during the time Suryakumar was away for family matters, Jasprit Bumrah's name was also suggested as an alternative to lead the team if needed.
