Mother and daughter who stole items from gold shops around the country were caught

On the 12th, the Dehiwala Police Criminal Investigation Division arrested a suspected mother and her minor daughter in the Walallawita area. Police say they visited a jewelry store in the Dehiwala area, pretended to buy gold items, swapped a real gold ring for a fake one, and then fled and went into hiding.




The main suspect, who was thus caught by the law, is a resident of the Walallawita area and is thirty-three years old. Police further state that her daughter, who was involved with her in these thefts, is fifteen years old.

Investigations have revealed that this mother and daughter have jointly carried out numerous similar thefts targeting gold jewelry stores in various parts of the island. It has also been confirmed that this woman was previously arrested by the police in connection with a theft from a jewelry store in Horana town and is currently out on bail. Furthermore, during interrogations of the arrested suspect, information was revealed that she had also entered a gold jewelry store in the Moratuwa area and committed a similar theft.
