Due to a purported suicide note by Jeffrey Epstein, publicized on May 6 and 7, 2026, intense public attention has once again focused on the disgraced financier's death in 2019. Following a request by The New York Times, U.S. District Judge Kenneth M.

Karas unsealed and released this handwritten page-long note. Previously, this document had been legally sealed as part of the criminal case against Nicholas Tartaglione, who was in the same prison cell as Epstein.

The note, barely legible on yellow legal paper, states that despite being investigated for months, nothing was found, and therefore charges were filed concerning events from 15 or 16 years ago. Furthermore, he expresses happiness at being able to choose his own time to say goodbye and questions whether 'they' expect him to cry, underlining and emphasizing that this is 'NO FUN — NOT WORTH IT!!'. However, the authenticity of this note has not yet been confirmed by the court, The New York Times, the Department of Justice (DOJ), or forensic experts, and the DOJ has stated that it had never seen the note until its recent public release.

The background of this note's discovery is linked to the statements of Epstein's cellmate, Nicholas Tartaglione. He claimed that he found the note hidden inside a comic book in their shared cell shortly after Epstein's alleged suicide attempt at the Metropolitan Correctional Center (MCC) in Manhattan on July 23, 2019. Tartaglione stated that he administered CPR to Epstein when he was found with a bedsheet strip around his neck, and then later found this note. He handed it over to his lawyers approximately two years later, around May 2021.

There is currently significant controversy regarding the credibility of Tartaglione, a former police officer accused of killing four people. Convicted in 2023 for a drug-related quadruple murder in 2016, he was sentenced in 2024 to four consecutive life sentences. He continues to appeal, proclaiming his innocence, and has stated in various interviews that he saved Epstein's life and that Epstein shared secrets about powerful individuals with him. However, due to his criminal background, these statements are met with considerable skepticism by the public.

With the release of this note, Epstein's death and the various theories surrounding it have once again come to the forefront. Arrested in July 2019 on charges of sex trafficking involving minors, he was found dead in his cell on August 10 of the same year, with the New York City medical examiner ruling it a suicide by hanging. However, serious security lapses, such as guards failing to conduct required checks, security cameras malfunctioning, his premature removal from a unit for suicide-risk inmates, and missing CCTV footage, have further fueled public skepticism about his death. Given his connections to politicians, celebrities, and royalty, this new note further intensifies existing suspicions.
