The echo of that brutal shooting, which desecrated the sanctity of a courtroom, still resonates throughout the underworld of this country.
This is with the arrest last night (13) by the Colombo District Crime Division of a powerful suspect said to have directly aided and abetted the murder of 'Ganemulla Sanjeewa', which caused a great stir in this country. The arrested individual is 69-year-old Osman Gunasekara, a resident of Gampaha, known in the underworld as 'Gampaha Osman'.
When apprehended in the Gampaha Sri Bodhi Road area, investigators were able to take into police custody a foreign-made repeater type firearm, two magazines, and ten live rounds from this elderly suspect. Although he appeared to be an ordinary elderly citizen at first glance, it has now been confirmed that he is the most powerful local accomplice of organized criminals hiding abroad.
Previously, on February 19, 2025, the assassin, disguised as a lawyer, shot and killed Sanjeewa Kumara Samararatne alias 'Ganemulla Sanjeewa', who was amidst prison officers inside the Colombo No. 05 Magistrate's Court, shocking the entire nation. According to Police Media Spokesperson, Assistant Superintendent of Police and Attorney-at-Law Udaya Kumara Wuttler, this suspect played the main role in launching that complex murder plan, conspiring for it, and placing the fatal firearm in the assassin's hand.
Apprehended based on information revealed by other suspects already in custody, he is currently being held under a 72-hour detention order and subjected to intense questioning. The Colombo District Crime Division faces the most serious questions: for what purpose he still possessed such a terrifying firearm, and who the underworld's next target is.
As those responsible for the blood spilled before the goddess of justice are each caught in the net of the law, time itself is proving that the invisible hands of the underworld can no longer escape justice.
