A sensitive and thrilling incident has been reported from the Mattegoda area, where, after a three-year-long 'palace of lies' built in the name of love collapsed, an attempt was made to abduct a young woman at gunpoint.
A twenty-year-old woman residing in the Kirigampamunuwa area of Mattegoda was attempted to be abducted from inside her own home by her former boyfriend. The thirty-year-old main suspect, along with a twenty-five-year-old friend who assisted him, was arrested after surrendering to the Mount Lavinia Divisional Criminal Investigation Bureau. The police have confirmed that they are residents of Padukka, Wataraka, and Habarakada areas.
Behind this incident lies a serious family crisis born from a severe breach of trust. The arrested main suspect had maintained a romantic relationship with this young woman for about three years, claiming to be an army soldier. However, over time, it was revealed to the young woman that he was a married father of one child. When the suspect's legal wife also learned about this illicit relationship, she strongly protested by sending several pieces of evidence, including her marriage certificate, to the young woman's elders. Accordingly, the young woman's family, having understood the truth, also strongly opposed this relationship.
Incensed by the revelation of his deception and the breakdown of the relationship, the suspect, along with his friend, broke into the young woman's house in a car around 8 AM on the 8th. There, they attempted to force her into the car by intimidating her with a firearm, but due to the strong resistance from the young woman's parents and relatives, the suspects had to abandon their plan and flee. Subsequent police investigations confirmed that they had used a toy pistol for this crime. The car used for the crime, the toy pistol, and the suspects' mobile phones have now been taken into police custody, and arrangements were made to present the suspects before the Kottawa Magistrate's Court under the instructions of Mattegoda Police Station OIC, Police Inspector Indika Kumara.
This incident, which escalated from deception instead of true love to ultimately threatening a life, leaves society with a powerful and lasting lesson about the dangers of being enslaved by emotions and blindly trusting unknown individuals.
