Engineering faculty student dies in Bandarawela road accident

A student studying at Ruhunu University died in a severe road accident that occurred last night (16) in the Threemile (third milepost) area on the main road running from Bandarawela to Badulla. According to Bandarawela Police, this tragedy occurred when a motorcycle carrying university students and a motor car collided.

Another university student who was involved in the accident has sustained serious injuries and is currently receiving inpatient treatment at Diyatalawa Base Hospital.




The young man who unfortunately died in this manner is Manikkaraj Eron, a twenty-two-year-old second-year student of the Faculty of Engineering at Ruhunu University. Police have identified him as a permanent resident of Irudeyapuram, Kovil Road, Batticaloa area. It has also been further revealed that the person seriously injured and hospitalized in this accident is a close friend of the deceased student, who is also of the same age.

Preliminary police investigations have confirmed that this group of young men had gathered for a pleasure trip using four motorcycles. They encountered this accident last night while traveling on motorcycles towards the Ella area, which they had chosen as their lodging. Police report that this fatal accident occurred when a motor car traveling from Badulla towards Bandarawela collided with the motorcycle ridden by the student concerned.
