Ella: A rock boulder rolls onto a house – 3 hospitalized

Following heavy rainfall, several massive boulders rolled down from a hill approximately 900 meters high onto a house in the Dodamgolla area of Ella, Ballaketuwa, completely destroying it. Local reporters state that three individuals have been hospitalized due to this sudden accident.

At the time of the incident, a married couple sleeping on a bed in the house sustained serious injuries when the boulders fell. The two, who are in critical condition, have been admitted to the Badulla Teaching Hospital for further treatment. Additionally, another person who was in a house near the accident site has also been hospitalized due to severe shock caused by the incident.

It is reported that the disaster-affected area is geographically located in a very difficult environment. Relevant authorities have now arrived at the site to observe the property damage caused by the accident and to investigate the relief efforts that should be provided by the government to the victims. Accordingly, a team including Mr. Wenura Malinda, Chairman of the Ella Pradeshiya Sabha, political representatives in charge of the division, and disaster management officers from the Ella Divisional Secretariat, has visited the site and conducted investigations.
