The Magistrate also ordered that the decision regarding the sentence to be imposed on the defendant for this offense would be announced on July 22.
This incident was reported twelve years ago, in 2014. A group of Talangama Police officers had visited the singer's house, located in the Talangama Police division, to inspect it under a dengue prevention program. On that day, the suspect singer was arrested on charges of obstructing police officers from carrying out their duties, criminal intimidation, and attempted assault.
After his arrest, the suspect, who had been remanded, was later released on bail. Since then, the trial continued uninterrupted for a long period of 12 years before the Kaduwela Magistrate's Court. After extensive deliberation of the facts, the court ruled that the defendant was guilty of the relevant charges.
In addition to this incident, the singer had also been arrested in 2016 for assaulting an elderly neighbor. After assaulting an elderly neighbor in the Pelawatte, Battaramulla area where he resides, he went into hiding and later surrendered to the Talangama Police. When he was being taken in a prison bus after receiving his sentence, and television cameras were focused on him, he stated:
“I haven't killed anyone... I haven't wronged anyone... If someone tries to raise a hand against my mother, I will hit them, that's how it is...”
