A 21-year-old man who was in possession of and engaged in wholesale distribution of a stock of 'Ice' (crystal methamphetamine) and heroin drugs worth over five crore rupees was arrested by the Western Province South Division Criminal Investigation Department on the night of the 8th. From this suspect, three kilograms and thirty-eight grams of 'Ice' drug and one kilogram of heroin have been taken into police custody.

This drug network is operated by the organized criminal and large-scale drug trafficker known as 'Kalubowila Bodhi Watte Avishka Heshan Gunawardena' or 'Bodhi Watte Avishka', who is currently hiding in a foreign country. Police Sergeant (40730) Dhanushka of the Western Province South Division Criminal Investigation Department received a confidential tip-off that the drugs were being distributed by the suspect, known by the alias 'Chathu', residing in the Pitakotte, Madiwela, Obahena Road area. Accordingly, based on information provided by Sub Inspector Prasanna Gunathilaka, the OIC of the Anti-Corruption Unit, a team of officers staked out near the suspect's house and carried out this raid.

The police subjected the suspect to a search when he was leaving his house to distribute drugs, and initially, 100 grams of heroin were found in his possession. Subsequently, he was arrested, and during a prolonged search conducted at his residence, investigators succeeded in finding the remaining stock of drugs hidden among clothes in a wardrobe in the bedroom. In addition to the 'Ice' drug packed in a regular container box, heroin and 'Ice' drugs packed in nine parcels of various weights were found in another part of the wardrobe, and the police confirmed that they were in the same condition as when they were brought into the country from abroad.

According to instructions and messages given via WhatsApp technology by Avishka, the main trafficker residing abroad, the suspect's main duty was to transport these drugs in bulk to designated locations. During preliminary interrogations of the suspect, it was revealed that for this task, the trafficker had provided him with a monthly sum of Rs. 50,000 and a quantity of 'Ice' drug for consumption once a day.

Detention orders are to be obtained for the arrested 21-year-old suspect, and further investigations will be conducted. Under the instructions of Inspector Sumith Jayasinghe, OIC of the Western Province South Division Criminal Investigation Department, Sub Inspector Prasanna Gunathilaka, OIC of the Anti-Corruption Unit, Police Sergeant (40730) Dhanushka, and Police Constables (94540) Rathnayake and (8112) Sampath are further conducting these investigations.
